FORGED PRODUCTS QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The Forged Components Quality Management System is a process for monitoring the quality of manufacturing through the delivery of our forged components. The system includes a number of parameters to measure the quality of the forged components, such as dimensions, dimensions variation, surface finish, and other characteristics.
Quality management systems are processes that are established to ensure the quality of goods and services to meet customer requirements and expectations. They provide a systematic approach for the quality control inspection process, which includes:
Material Inspection
Chemical Analysis: Ensures the forged material has the correct chemical composition according to the specifications.
Mechanical Testing: Includes tensile testing, impact testing, and hardness testing to verify material properties.
Forging Process Inspection
Visual Inspection: Checks for obvious defects such as cracks, inclusions, or surface irregularities.
Dimensional Inspection: Ensures the forged component meets the specified dimensions and tolerances.
Heat Treatment Inspection
Temperature Monitoring: Confirms that the heat treatment processes (e.g., annealing, quenching) are performed at the correct temperatures and times.
Post-Heat Treatment Testing: Verifies the material properties after heat treatment.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Detects internal flaws or inconsistencies.
Radiographic Testing (RT): Uses X-rays or gamma rays to inspect internal structures for defects.
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT): Identifies surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials.
Dye Penetrant Testing (PT): Reveals surface-breaking defects through a dye application process.
Dimensional and Tolerance Checks
Verification of Forged Dimensions: Ensures that the forged product meets the required geometric specifications.
Inspection of Critical Tolerances: Checks tolerances for critical dimensions to ensure proper fit and function.
Pressure Testing
Documentation and Certification
Certificates of Compliance: Provides evidence that the forging process and materials comply with relevant standards and specifications.
Test Reports: Includes results from all inspections and tests performed on the forged components.
Visual and Surface Finish Inspection
Surface Quality: Ensures the surface finish meets the requirements, checking for any defects such as dents, scratches, or oxidation.
Each of these inspections plays a vital role in ensuring that forged pressure vessels and flanges are safe and reliable for their intended applications. The specific requirements may vary depending on industry standards and regulations, such as those set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
FCI’s focus on Quality has served as a fundamental base which has contributed to our continued success. Our continuous improvement of our Quality Management System is of utmost importance to our management team and the rest of the company. We always strive to achieve the required quality standards to provide a product that meets the specified requirements of the customer and to ensure strict adherence to the governing requirements for safe and efficient operations. Every one of our facilities has external certifications as a tool for continuous surveillance.
Our Quality Management System is based on the principals of ISO 9001:2015. FCI’s corporate quality assurance function has full organizational independence. Our manufacturing sites are certified to Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU. The corporate office holds Canadian Registration Numbers for all the Canadian provinces, resulting from the auditing services conducted by Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB). In addition, we have a metallurgical quality control program in place that directs the selection of raw material heat, forging, and heat-treating practices for specific applications.
