Forged Pressure Vessel Connections: 9 Best Types

There are nine types of custom pressure vessel components manufacturing that have proved the best. These types are the ones most relied upon:

1. LONG WELD NECK “LWN”.

The “LWN” connection is the least expensive and most lightweight FCI standard connection.

2. HEAVY BARREL “HB”.

More reinforced than “LWN” with thicker barrel.

3. INTERMEDIATE BARREL “I”.

There are 3 standard intermediate barrel connections: I1, I2, and I3. They have different sizes of stronger reinforced barrels than the “HB” type.

4. EQUAL BARREL “E”.

The most reinforced connection of all the standard ones made by FCI. Contoured bottom sections are optionally available.

5. SUPER BARREL “SB”.

The same as the “E” connection, except it provides a connecting nut relief inside the barrel. Outside diameter is larger than bolting flange.

6. INSERT LIPS.

Connections are available with Insert Lips, “Q” designation. So, Intermediate Barrel 3 with an Insert Lip is: I3Q.

7. BUTT WELD STUB END CONNECTIONS.

Outside diameter of these connections can be the above sizes with square or plain ends. Customer specifies the customization.

8. STUDDING OUTLETS.

Unique compact design with built-in reinforcement. Low profile, used where bolt clearance is limited.

9. LARGE DIAMETER FLANGES

Made according to ASME B16.47, A and B Series, with sizes from NPS 26″ and up to NPS 60″ available.
