A Long Neck Flange and a Welding Neck Flange have similar features. However, a Long Neck Flange has a slightly longer neck. Many industrial businesses use Long Neck Flanges on columns and barrels as nozzles. Equal LWN Barrels and Heavy Barrels are also popular. They have a thicker wall and a unique shape.
A Long Weld Neck Flange offers a lighter connection. This is why many industries use this flange in areas that require minimum reinforcement. A Long Weld Neck Flange has a barrel that provides proper clearance between the nut and neck. The length of the flange can be increased if an offset attachment is needed on the heads or vessel shells. These flanges can also be manufactured with contoured bottoms.
Long Neck Flanges are used by many industries because they are strong and resist dishing. The tapered hub provides strength since it is extremely thick. The hub runs from the flange facing to the weld joint.
A heavy barrel provides extra reinforcement and is available in different lengths. If a client needs a heavy barrel that has a longer length, it must be requested. All heavy barrels have connections that are designed for a Nut Stop.
However, manufacturers will supply a Nut Relief if the client requests it. All heavy barrels have a 12-inch connection and S80 bores, which is an ideal size for most pipes. Most manufacturers also offer big HB connections for traditional pipes. Contour bottoms and custom bores are usually provided upon request.
