Subsea Wellhead Inspection

If a wellhead is not in proper working order, it can lead to issues due to the sensitivity of drilling pressure. This can put human lives at risk and also result in leaks and spills if the wellhead bursts in a damaging manner. To maintain proper operations, wellheads should be regularly inspected by qualified professionals or companies.

Subsea wellhead inspections involve regularly checking the system for any signs of damage or corrosion. Various methods are used for these inspections –

* Subsea Wellhead Integrity Monitoring (SWIM™), which measures the accumulated load and other critical parameters on the wellhead during drilling operations.

* Conducting tubing and wellhead integrity pressure tests, where the well is shut down and clean treated water is pumped into the tubing to assess its integrity.

* Subsea robotics can be employed to perform visual inspections using remotely operated autonomous underwater vehicles.

* Radiography or ultrasonic testing is utilized to examine the wellhead and ‘Christmas Tree’ equipment. A drill-pipe camera is employed to inspect the sealing faces of the subsea wellhead for any potential damage.

The occurrence of gas or oil is frequently encountered at the wellhead’s junction. The wellhead casing manufacturer constructs casings that enable the gas or oil to be transferred through the well and up to the ‘Christmas Tree’ pinnacle.

Only select companies’ manufacturer wellhead casings due to the demanding forging process and meeting industry certification standards. Strict guidelines must be observed and practiced during every stage of construction.
